Children and clinical research: ethical issues

The report Children and research: ethical issues was published in May 2015. Since then, the Council has initiated a range of follow up activities, including meetings with relevant organisations, presentations at conferences and events and promotion of the Council’s recommendations in a range of other ways.

A report published in July 2016 sets out some highlights of developments and activities relating to this report, including the following:

• A joint statement with the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (RCPCH) on the protection of time for paediatricians to take part in research ethics committees.
• A meeting with the NIHR to explore collaboration between life-sciences industry and young people to improve research, and a statement of aspiration backed by major industry organisations including AstraZeneca, GSK and Roche.
• An international symposium to explore how the report’s recommendations might apply in a wider range of contexts.
• An English and Spanish language online training course published on the Global Health Network website.
• Translation of materials including the magazine and animation into Spanish and the animation into Arabic and Mandarin.
