Stem cell-based embryo models

Assessing the ethical and regulatory issues raised by research using human stem cell-based embryo models to develop a phased approach to governance .

Research using stem-cell based embryo models offers the potential to further our understanding of early human development, including causes of infertility, miscarriage and developmental disorders.

As the science advances, there is potential for embryo models to become increasingly similar to human embryos, raising ethical and regulatory questions.

We published a report with ethical analysis and recommendations for decision makers working in this area in November 2024.
