Stephen is an academic researcher specialising in reproductive ethics and the regulation of reproductive technologies.
Stephen spent nine years as joint leader of a Wellcome-funded research programme exploring the Ethics and Regulation of Human Reproductive Donation. In 2022, he became principal investigator for another large Wellcome grant, The Future of Human Reproduction: transformative agendas and methods for the Humanities and Social Sciences. This innovative, interdisciplinary research programme explores the conceptual challenges that will emerge as technological advances fundamentally change the possibilities for human reproduction.
Stephen has been appointed to the Nuffield Council on Bioethics following an open recruitment process. You can find information about all of our Council members here.
It is a great privilege to become part of the Nuffield Council on Bioethics, especially at such an exciting time. The Council has just launched its new strategy, Making Ethics Matter, and I look forward to collaborating with other members of the Council, and with the Executive team, to support the delivery of the ambitious goals outlined in the strategy, and to help make ethics central to policy development processes.
Professor Stephen Wilkinson
I am delighted that Stephen is joining us as a council member. His knowledge and expertise, especially in the field of reproductive ethics, will be a huge value to us as we make this a priority area of focus in our new strategy.
