The Council has launched a new resource for teachers based on its report on the ethical issues arising from the forensic use of bioinformation.Download the free resource.The activities aim to teach students to think about how bioinformation - fingerprints and DNA profiles - are used to investigate crime and the ethical issues that arise from the storage of bioinformation on national databases.Three activities have been developed for Key Stage 4 and above:

  • Introduction to bioinformation, factfile and quiz
  • Exploring ethical issues
  • Real life case studies

Lesson plans, teaching notes, activity sheets, curriculum links and background information are provided for each activity.The resource was produced by the Council’s Education Advisory Group.The Council has also developed a set of teaching resources on the use of animals in research in collaboration with the Nuffield Foundation Curriculum Programme.Download the use of animals in research resources for teachers.
