Hugh Whittall has retired as Director of the Nuffield Council on Bioethics, after 14 years.

All who worked with Hugh would like to thank him for being a wonderful colleague and leader and for contributing so much to our growth and success as an organisation over this time.

His many achievements at the Nuffield Council include establishing our reputation as an internationally respected thought leader and policy influencer; developing our work to engage the public on key bioethical issues; and shaping our new programmes of work in rapid policy response and horizon scanning to complement our renowned in-depth inquiries.

Hugh has served on a number of national and international committees and has been a frequent contributor to the media when bioethical debate has hit the headlines.

We wish Hugh all the very best in retirement.

We look forward to welcoming Danielle Hamm as our Director starting from 21 June.
