We are delighted to announce that Professor David Archard, Chair of the Nuffield Council on Bioethics, has been appointed to the National Genomics Board.
The National Genomics Board advises the UK government regarding developments in the genomics industry and facilitates collaborative work to harness the benefits of genomics across healthcare and life sciences.
The Board brings together senior decision makers, including key civil servants, delivery partners, patient advocates and representatives from research organisations and industry. It will make proposals on issues including patient and public involvement, research activities, skills and training, and regulatory requirements, policy, and guidance.
Commenting on this appointment, Professor Archard said:
It is a privilege to be invited to join the Board and to continue the Nuffield Council’s work to ensure that ethical deliberation is embedded in the delivery of genomic healthcare and research. It is vital that ethical considerations shape genomic research and medicine from the outset, and I look forward to contributing to the Board’s discussions.
