Patient access to experimental treatments

To be published in November 2018

Patients and their families might seek experimental treatments if proven treatments have not worked or none are available. Experimental treatments could include medicines, surgery, medical devices, stem cell and gene therapies, and fertility treatments. The Council held a multi-disciplinary workshop in April 2018 to discuss the issues raised by the use of experimental treatments, and will publish a Bioethics briefing note in November 2018.
